why breathe?
Wherever we go, our breath is always present. It is a direct interface to consciously influencing the body, our thoughts and emotions, our state of mind, and beyond.
I built Breathe as a way to catalog, organize, and share the breathing techniques I've learned and studied over the past 20 years. What began as a simple personal list has grown into an app with over 90 practices to share with my students, friends, and family.
From conditioning as a Division I lacrosse athlete to exploring altered states of consciousness and completing over 500 hours of yoga teacher training, my journey with breathwork has taken many forms. Breathe brings those experiences together in one place, making it easier to explore different approaches to conscious breathing.
where to begin?
Start with a handful of simple breathing patterns:
- Downshift2:3 ratio · inhale 4s · exhale 6s · for calm
- Up Shift3:2 ratio · inhale 6s · exhale 4s · for a quick boost
- 5.5 Coherence1:1 ratio · inhale and exhale 5.5s · for balance
- Box Breath1:1:1:1 ratio · 4 seconds each phase · for steady holds and focus
From there, follow your curiosity into longer breath segments, holds, and more advanced techniques. Ask ROOT to find a practice for you, or send me a question.
